Cool Stuff for June

As a speculative fiction author and blogger, I try to skip over the typical stuff most spec fic sites cover like upcoming movies and TV, focusing instead on the more esoteric.  But, I’ll make an exception on this one… PopSci has a good slideshow evaluating the science fact and fantasy of this summer’s crop of speculative fiction movies. Some tech is surprisingly close…

Gizmaz recently profiled an eye-popping concept for a hovercraft.  Designed by a 21 year-old industrial design student for a contest, this cool looking ride is probably not something we’ll ever see, but this and seven other photos really get my creative juices flowing. Can’t you just see something like this in the next James Bond movie?  And wouldn’t this be the perfect vehicle for a colony on another world?

Last, but not least, IO9 has announced a photo contest called cryptid summer, asking readers to submit their best “authentic” photos of Bigfoot, the Lockness Monster, unicorns, or any other supposedly real mythical creatures there might be lurking out in the woods just over the hill. The winning entrant will get $2,000 for his or her photographic proof.

What cool stuff have your run across lately?
